The premise of the book is that—in spite of the Maine Board of Overseers’ rulings to the contrary—the behavior of Judge Robert M.A. Nadeau is unethical. The statements made here (and in the book) are based on the author’s belief that the behavior of Robert Nadeau is unethical. Both Robert Nadeau and the Maine Bar DISAGREE (although neither denies the activities occurred).
Here are some examples of the behavior in question:
- Sleeping with a client during billable hours (and billing them for it).
- Openly discussing a client’s confidential information with others.
- Using a clients’ confidential information against them – and even giving it to the opposing party.
- Secretly advising the opposing party in a former client’s case.
- Stalking, slandering and terrorizing former clients.
- Conspiring and participating in the circulation of illegal tape recordings of a former client.
- Offering financial gifts to – or threatening – witnesses who are about to testify against that lawyer/judge.
- Altering evidence and/or making directly opposing statements under oath.
- Using client funds to pay law firm operating funds.
- And finally, if that lawyer or judge happens to chat about doing these things with his therapist, he or she probably shouldn’t enter those medical records as an exhibit in court without reading them first.
Not only has Judge Robert M.A. Nadeau done all of these things, but he actually tries to defend them in his many emails, pleadings and depositions (most of which can be read online). Worst of all, the judicial system has supported him every step of the way.
